Richland Northeast Student Senate
At Richland Northeast High School, Student Senate plays a pivotal role in shaping the day to day activities of the school. From planning pep rallies to diversity events, RNE Senate helps boost school spirit and morale, while also promoting civic responsibility and leadership for all students.
Senate is comprised of elected representatives from all grade levels, 9th through 12th, and meets weekly to plan different events for students and the surrounding community. Senate is divided into 6 committees, publicity, leadership, outreach, recreation, community service, and school spirit and service. All of these committees work toward improving the school and giving back to the community while address the different needs of an effective student government, and are adapted to fit the specific needs of the Richland Northeast Student Body. Senate undertakes the majority of school-wide events, from planning to execution. Within the surrounding area, Senate has organized Trick or Trunk for community children, facilitated Families Helping Families for the underprivileged in the Northeast Columbia area, and hosted different walks, runs, and awareness campaigns for different local issues. Within school, Senate has represented the face of Northeast to incoming Freshmen at Fresh Start every year, planned pep rallies to highlight different sports teams and organizations, and given students a spotlight in the Miss and Mr. RNE pageants. In addition to these events, Senate has also been included in various efforts to emphasize the already diverse Northeast student body and bring attention to the issues that concern students through partnerships with campaigns such as Hate Won’t Win. The work of RNE Student Senate has been recognized several times over through regional, state, and national awards for works within Richland Northeast and within the surrounding area. As a member of the South Carolina Association of Student Councils (SCASC), Northeast Senate is part of the 4A Student Council rank, placing us in a very competitive rank with other student councils in South Carolina. Within the Association, we were recognized as a SCASC Honor 2018 Palmetto Scholarship Member. Several members of Senate have also been inducted into the SCASC Terry McCoy Hall of Fame. |
